I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for considering Bulman Gunleather for your next holster purchase. I have been crafting a complete line of handmade concealment holsters and accessories suited for the professional and armed citizen alike since 1999. Everything is hand made, one at a time, here in central Pennsylvania. Each of the holsters you find on this website has been designed to carry your firearm safely and securely.
I do not employ external safety devices (with the exception of shoulder holsters). Instead, my holsters boast superior retention accomplished through the arduous task of hand molding specific gun models to each holster. Attention is paid to molding along the lines of tension and zero tension areas. The pistol is secure in even the most active situations, yet is instantly accessible after an initial .25 inch resistance that is overcome during combat presentation. Although this process is time consuming, I know the end results are worth the extra effort.
The leather I use is the finest holster leather obtainable. I do not use leather bought from a wholesaler or dealer. After many years of working with my tannery, we have developed, what I feel to be, the ideal leather to create holsters for my customers. All of my leather products are dyed and finished to give the holster a lasting beauty. The colors are mixed in house to create timeless, classic and stunning shades. The colors are even, consistent, and hold a deep, durable brilliance not often found in other manufacturers' products.
One of the first things a master holster maker inspects are the edges of the leather. A quality holster should have smooth, rounded edges applied with hard waxes, not Beeswax or worse, painted on acrylics that will chip off. The rough edges of the leather on my holsters are burnished. This time consuming, labor intensive process involves several different wax applications over the course of construction. I feel this is a superior process when compared to the alternative
All of the holsters I make are sewn on a Union Lock-stitch machine. These machines have been around for well over 100 years. Why? Because they make the strongest stitch possible with the added benefit of a very handsome stitch on both the front and back of the holster. This is something a straight needle machine can not do. I use very heavy thread, the heaviest still produced (what I like to call "rope"). Most of the time when a holster becomes unsafe or unusable, it is due to thread wear or broken stitches. A lot of makers use thinner thread simply so they don't have to change bobbins on their machines as often. This is not the best practice for a daily carry holster that will get used and abused.
I take great pride in the finish on every piece that leaves my shop. More time is spent on final finish than in the actual construction of the holster itself. I immerse each item in an acrylic that I have developed over the years. This does several things for the leather. It penetrates the leather almost completely, making the leather water, mold and mildew resistant. In addition, it keeps the holster's shape and fitment, resulting in a very long service life. Finally, each item is buffed and finished to a brilliant sheen, prior to my rigorous detailed inspection.
I am now offering a few kydex holster models. While some purists may baulk at the use of plastic, times change as do the needs of my customers. There are several design situations that greatly benefit from the use of this material to craft a holster. I’ve been using kydex in the SBS holster for well over 25 years, so it is not a new medium to me. With the popularity of weapons mounted optics (MRDS) kydex can offer solutions that leave leather behind. You may notice I do not offer any kydex solutions for guns with weapons mounted lights. It is my feeling these attachments add too much bulk and are too tempting for individuals to break Condition 2. So, for now, I will not entertain orders for such configurations.
You will be happy to know, and I am proud to say that 99% of materials used to construct each piece is made in the USA. Over the past 27 years, our products have been used in hot and cold situations around the world by SEAL teams, intelligence agencies (both foreign and domestic), private contractors, and personal protection details.
